Amos, Akinwande attended the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada on a Federal Government Scholarship. He emerged with B.Sc (Hons) in 1969 and M.Sc. Nutrition in 1970 then he enrolled for PhD degree in Nutritional Biochemistry, University of British Columbia, Vacouver, Canada. Akinwande was appointed to academic position of Lecturer II in the Department of Biochemistry, College of Medicine, University of Lagos; and became a Professor of Biochemistry in 1991. He was also Consultant Biochemistry to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH).He has effectively managed many administrative positions in various universities. He has made his mark as Head of Department, Member of University Senate and Chairman of Several University Committees, Deputy Provost, Acting Provost, Director of Academic Planning, College Dean and Acting Vice-Chancellor. Akinwande has taught many areas of Biochemistry to undergraduate and postgraduate students in Biochemistry, MB. BS, BDS, Fellowship Programme, AIST and IMLT and other science degree programmes. Akinwande has supervised over 40 M.Sc. M.Phil and Ph.D research projects and over 300 B.Sc. (Hons) projects to fruition. Akinwande has published five books including “nutritional Biochemistry” published by the University of Lagos Press and “The Nigerian Woman and her Child” published by the College of Medicine Press. He has over 80 articles published in collaboration with colleagues in reputable, peer-reviewed local and international journals. He has over 30 articles read at local and international conferences and workshops. Akinwande has won several scholarly awards, bursaries, Best teacher award, long and distinguished service award, immense contributions and meritorious service award, Research awards and grants. Akinwande has served as External Examiner of students in Biochemistry and postgraduate programmes and to assess candidates for the post of Professor of Biochemistry in many Nigerian Universities and Universities in Ghana and Sierra Leone. Akinwande is a member of many professorial bodies. He is a fellow, Strategic Institute for Natural Resources and Human Development FRHD.
