Department of Music

The Department of Music at Mountain Top University (MTU) is a distinguished part of the College of Humanities, Management, and Social Sciences. It is recognized as one of the best music departments in Nigeria. The department offers a comprehensive baccalaureate music program, catering to the training of music majors through traditional pedagogy. Lectures and instrumental tuition are conducted in interactive settings by highly qualified faculty members and instructors, focusing on individual student development. Housed within the Center of Excellence for Music, known as the Organ House, the department provides a splendid and serene environment for music study and performance. This facility offers hands-on musical experiences through solo and ensemble concert programs. Resources include a collection of Western and African musical instruments, an electro-acoustic music studio, a listening lab, acoustically padded practice rooms, a library, and a seminar room. In addition to the undergraduate program, the department administers the "Every Student a Musician" (ESM) program, designed to musically equip non-music majors. This initiative makes MTU unique among universities by offering instrumental tuition to all enrolled students under the overarching entrepreneurial study program. The department regularly hosts a variety of concerts, masterclasses, workshops, public lectures, and conferences at the Organ House, enriching the cultural and academic life of the university community.
