MOUNTAIN TOP UNIVERSITY RECEIVES PHI TAU SIGMA BOOK DONATION

MOUNTAIN TOP UNIVERSITY RECEIVES PHI TAU SIGMA BOOK DONATION

Mountain Top University has been selected as a recipient of a significant academic resource donation from Phi Tau Sigma; a globally recognised honour society committed to advancing excellence in food science and technology.

Established in 1953 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, United States, Phi Tau Sigma promotes scholarly distinction and professional development within the field of food science. Its latest intervention at Mountain Top University forms part of a broader initiative aimed at strengthening teaching, learning, and research capacity in tertiary institutions across Africa through the provision of current academic materials.

The donation followed a continent-wide call for applications issued in October 2025, inviting eligible universities to apply for a grant of up-to-date textbooks in food science and technology. The initiative is designed to support knowledge advancement and bridge resource gaps in higher education institutions.

Mountain Top University’s submission was done by Associate Professor Engr. Dr. S. S. Sobowale of the Department of Food Science and Technology, who applied on behalf of the institution. Following the evaluation process, the results announced in January 2026 confirmed the university as one of the successful beneficiaries. The selection further consolidates Mountain Top University’s growing reputation as an emerging centre of excellence in scientific research and innovation within Africa.

The donation comprises twenty-two high-quality textbooks covering key areas in food science and chemistry, with an estimated value of approximately USD 3,000. The materials are expected to significantly enhance the university’s academic resources, supporting both teaching delivery and research output within the department.
