The 2020/2021 first semester Excellent Lady’s Programme for female students in Mountain Top University was held on the 14th of March, 2021 at the University’s Multi-Purpose Hall. The theme of the pro-gramme, “Harnessing the Potentials in a girl-child,” was indeed timely, suitable and remarkable because the girls just returned from a long compulsory holiday oc-casioned by COVID-19 re-strictions and there were ten-tative tendencies and indica-tions that their covert talents, power, skills and abilities that were partially or completely buried during the compulsory vacation needed to be revived.
The programme was meant to educate the girl-child on the need to identify her aptitudes, utilise them, create and produce things with them right from their time in the University to the outside world. There was display of all kinds of tal-ents and prospects which metamorphosed into di-dactic expressions of un-common abilities by the female students in Moun-tain Top University (MTU). Other educative and inter-esting activities at the event were the Debate, Sword Drills, Table Dance and the Seminar. The 100 and 200 level girls were engaged in a debate on the reality of inequality between men and women in our society. Both levels contributed intelligently as they present-ed undeniably current and concrete facts that made it difficult for the panel of judges to decide the winner. Although it was a her-culean task for the panel of judges, they finally de-clared the 100 level team (who were of the opinion that the concept of inequality in our society is a scam) as the winner of the debate, with just half a mark to defeat the 200 level team. The debate was anchored by one of the Students’ Representative Council’s (SRC) members.
The climax of the programme was when the invited seminarian, a counsellor and a woman of many col-ours, Pastor Bisi Ayanfeolu, mounted the stage to deliver the talk for the day. While she was teaching, biros were distributed to all the participants to enable them take notes. Pastor Ayanfeolu emphasised that for any girl to harness her potentials, such a girl needs to have a closer relationship with Christ. She lamented her inability to embrace Christ early in life and admonished the girls not to tow her line. Draw-ing analogies from both contemporary and biblical characters such as Esther, Deborah and the General Overseer, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries,
Dr Daniel Olukoya, Pastor, Ayanfeolu reiterated that it is possible for a girl child to explore her abilities and be successful in life if she first gets closer to God and allow Him to direct her path. There was question and answer session as well as a counselling session after the seminar.
The programme was excellently coordinated by Dr Mrs Mariam Anana of the Department of Languages, Mrs Ngozi Owo and Mrs Abimbola Joda from the Registry. The University Chaplain, Pastor Olumide Adesina, and some members of the Students’ Repre-sentative Council also played vital roles towards the success of the programme.
The Excellent Lady’s programme is held once every semester for female students in Mountain Top Uni-versity and is always a time of great excitement, en-lightenment, creative awareness and spiritual rejuve-nation. It is usually a period that the girls look for-ward to; a time they freely showcase their abilities as vibrant young ladies in the university and this semes-ter’s edition did not fall short of the mark.
