The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics was created to produce graduates (bachelors, masters, and doctorates) who are of superior quality and international standard for global relevance. The department has four undergraduate programmes (BSc. Computer Science, BSc. Mathematics, BSc. Software Engineering and BSc. Cyber Security) and Master of Science programme in Computer Science and Mathematics programmes. All our courses are accredited by the National Universities Commission.
The department offers a unique educational opportunity for students of Computer Science, Software Engineering and Artificial Intelligence to achieve excellence through vigorous lecture classes, practical classes, and participation in cutting-edge ICT research. Also, the Mathematics students are being trained with up-to-date knowledge and skills in Mathematics for research and application purposes. Our research activities are focused on developing knowledge and research that can make a direct contribution to society.
The results of our research are implementable for societal usage and global impacts. Our students are given opportunities to attend conferences, seminars and workshops and become co-authors of articles that are published in top-rated journals. Many of our undergraduates are empowered in such a way that they can compete with other students from any part of the world, and they also take on postgraduate studies in any area of Mathematics and Computer Science. A good feature of our department is the good community life and the good relationship that exists between staff and students. Our students rendezvous and study in our amazing environment and get to know our staff personally. For our students, you have done well by choosing to be a student of the Computer Science and Mathematics Department, at Mountain Top University. You will be working under the tutelage of a world-class faculty who are committed to helping you get the best of your university education. Therefore, make the best use of many services and opportunities available to help you attain your full potential. I have confidence that the year beforehand will be full of worthwhile experiences. The Department of Computer Science and Mathematics is in the College of Basic and Applied Sciences (CBAS) at Mountain Top University, MFM Prayer City, Ogun State, Nigeria. It has about thirty in-house and adjunct staff working together on research, teaching and academic supports.
The department has over 300 undergraduate students and post graduate students. The Department is well equipped with world class laboratories, such as: hardware laboratory, cyber- security laboratory, digital simulation laboratory and a mathematical laboratory.
It is the duty of all staff of the department to ensure that students are empowered to succeed in order to become self-reliant, competent and employable, and highly motivated to identify and produce sound and innovative mathematical models and technological solutions required for solving various human problems.
The computer science programme is planned to provide individuals with the opportunity of obtaining broad knowledge and skills in both theoretical and practical aspects. Students are taught and trained on how to write programs or problem solving, software and application development, thus, leading to production of highly innovative and creative graduates that are competent enough the stand on their own in the labour market.
Career opportunities include: Software Systems Developer, Database Administrator, Network Systems Administrator, Business Intelligence Analyst, Multimedia Programmer, System Analyst, IT Consultant, Web Developers, Games Developer, Computer Programmer, Data Scientist, Cyber Security Experts Teaching/Lecturing, etc.
The mathematics programme opens doors for a promising career path by training and producing graduates who are adequately equipped with mathematical skills of analytical thinking, critical reasoning and problem solving. The broad and robust programmme is aimed at introducing the students to various areas of Mathematics and applications. We aim to produce top-rated mathematicians who will make impact in research, teaching, the society, and industry at large.
Career opportunities include: Operation Researcher, Research Scientists, Banker, Financial Services, Cryptographer, Accountant, Teacher/Lecturer, Epidemiologist, Mathematical Economist, Statistician.
Undergraduate degree programmes
Postgraduate degree programmes
Computer Sciences and Mathematics are two inseparable disciplines. In our present world, what these two disciplines bring to the “table” towards the development of human life cannot be over emphasized. It is an obvious fact that the present world is technology driven and computer technology is in the forefront of development in all areas of human life. Due to the applicability of technology in all facets of human life, computer science is one of the fastest growing and leading areas of research and development all over the world. On the other hand, Mathematics being the nucleus of all sciences and a universal language has helped the world project into the future. Every real-life problem is being modelled into mathematical problems and then solved using mathematical techniques and tools.
The concept of mathematics is not just solving difficult problems in mathematics, mathematics as a discipline empowers one with the thinking ability, computational power to understand his/her immediate abstract environment, formulate some scientific hypothesis and then provide a solution. Research in the department cuts across different areas in Pure and Applied Mathematics and Computer Sciences.
