I welcome you to the Department of Business Administration – the unique department of warehousing Business Administration; Industrial Relations & Personnel Management, IRPM; and Public Administration, PAD, Programmes.

The department was founded to reform functional business education in this clime through the provision of quality education, service, industry, and character.

Our department is endowed with experienced and well-motivated astute academics and professionals with diverse professional designations and robust industry experience in various and varied areas of specialization in Business Administration.

About Our Department


The programmes focus on the knowledge required by students to understand the socio-cultural, political and economic environment and how they impact human behaviour, as well as affect other resources relevant to organization and society, as they impact on the productive system and society at large.

With the required knowledge, students will have the skills to enhance their understanding to explain, predict and influence human behaviour in the work system and manage efficiently and effectively other resources towards the actualization of organisational goals and social development.

BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION PROGRAMME

The objectives of the Degree Programme are:

  1. To make students become aware of the vital roles played by business Organizations in national development.
  2. To imbibe the students with a general knowledge of the principles and practise of management.
  3. To develop a knowledge and understanding of the concepts, problems and practices of management.
  4. To introduce students to the skill of analysing changes in market technology, considering legal, social and political factors in the environment.
  5. To equip students with a thorough knowledge and understanding of the responsibilities typically exercised within the business functions.

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General

UTME:

  1. Candidates seeking admission to the four year Degree program should possess a Senior Secondary School Certificate of Education or their equivalents with at least five credit passes, at not more than two sitting,  which must include English language, Mathematics and Economics and pass at the University Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with the cut-off points as may be determined by the University from time to time. Candidates must also pass the screening interview conducted by the University.
  2. Candidates are expected to take English Language, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject

ii)  Direct Entry: In addition to the ordinary level requirements above, candidates for admission should possess Ordinary National Diploma,OND, from a recognized Tertiary Institution, with a minimum of a Lower Credit Pass.

iii) Program Duration: The program offers a four years study for candidates admitted through the UTME and a three year study for candidates admitted through Direct Entry leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.ScHons) in Business Administration.

INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS & PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT:

  • IRPM Programme:

Industrial Relations and Personnel Management Program was established in October, 2015 as a programme under the Department of Business Administration.

At inception, the programme started with seven (7) students.

OBJECTIVES

The programme aims to produce skilled graduates knowledgeable in the manpower needs and utilization in the industries and commercial organizations. Other objectives include:

  1. Graduates of the programme should be able to apply the understanding of the field to the manpower needs of both public and private organizations,
  2. Equipped with the required skills, knowledge, abilities and attitudes to manage human and other relevant resources towards the actualization of organizational goals and survival.
  3. Apply the skills, knowledge, abilities, attitudes, capabilities and competences in the production of goods and services, efficient and effective management of all resources in the work system and contribute meaningfully towards the survival of organisations and society at large.

  • ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

General

 

  • UTME :
    1. Candidates must have obtained FIVE (5) Credit passes at not more two sitting in FIVE (5) subjects including English Language, Mathematics and Economics at SSCE, NECO, and GCE Ordinary level.
    2.  Candidate is expected to take English Language, Economics and two (2) other subjects at the UTME.
  • Direct Entry-In addition to the ordinary level requirements above, candidate for admission should possess Ordinary National Diploma from a recognised tertiary institution, with a minimum of Lower Credit Pass in relevant programmes.

 

  • Programme Duration- the Programme offers a four (4) year study for candidates admitted through the UTME and a three (3) year study for candidates admitted through Direct Entry leading to the award of a degree of Bachelor of Science (B.Sc. Hons.) in Industrial Relations and Personnel Management.




  • Public Administration Programme:

The mission of the Public Administration programme is to produce graduates of Public Administration that are comparable to those of the highest ranking universities in the world; graduates that are employable in public sector and help promote effective service delivery to the public, employable in first class organizations and those that are potentially first class policy makers and implementers.

  • Objectives:

The major objectives of the degree programme in Public Administration are:

  1. To produce administrators empowered with the spirit of excellence in public sectors administration cum management.
  2. To train and produce middle and top-level bureaucrats as well as leaders and managers for local, national and global communities.
  3. To train and raise experts in policy making and implementation for the Nigerian society, Africa and the world at large.
  4. To produce competent personnel in the management of complex relations amidst the dynamic business clime and bureaucratic practices; skilful in problem-solving and organizational conflict management; vast in administrative principles and theories.
  5. To produce graduates with sound minds and characters central to effective administration, management and governance, as well as with deep rooted foundation for studies in graduate or higher degrees in Public Administration and related discipline.

Admission Requirement: Four-Year Degree Programme in Public Administration

The Four year Degree programme is Public Administration

  1. Candidates must have obtained credit passes in Five subjects , at not more than two sittings, in Senior Secondary Certificate, (WASCE, NECO,etc) Examinations. The credit passes must include English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government/History and any other two subjects in Arts or Social Sciences.
  2. Candidates must take at the UTME, English Language, Government,Economics and /or History.
  3. Candidates must succeed in Screening Test,

Admission Requirement: Three Year Degree Programme in Public Administration:

UTME- for admission into the program, candidates are required to possess the following minimum qualifications: SSCE or GCE O/L or NECO with credit level passes in five (5) subjects at not more than two (2) Sittings, which should include  English Language, Mathematics. Candidates must also earn an acceptable score in the post UTME screening.

Direct Entry Candidate- candidates seeking admission by Direct Entry into 200 Level must have at least five (5) O’Level Credits with a minimum of two (2) relevant subjects at Advance Level or any approved equivalents.

Inter-university Transfer to be provided by the university students transferring to Public Administration from Public Administration of any recognized and accredited university will be expected to be on a CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5-point scale. Such students can only transfer to year II (200 Level).
