The Department started with its first set of students in the 2016/2017 academic session. It has since then graduated two sets of students. With excellent facilities to teach all the different areas of Mass communication - broadcast, print, public relations, and advertising, the Department stands tall among her peers. It also boasts of world-class faculty, who are mostly doctorate degree holders. Recently, postgraduate programmes such as Post Graduate Diploma (PGD), Masters, and Ph.D. in Mass Communication have kicked off with students already registered for the programmes.

The philosophy of Mountain Top University’s (MTU) Mass Communication programme is to produce graduates who are academically and professionally empowered with the competencies required to discharge their duties to society. Graduates will be morally and spiritually strengthened to excel in their families and the society at large.
Our Vision
The programme’s vision is to produce Mass Communication graduates who are conscious of their social responsibilities as Mass Communicators, who strive to become employers of labour and not remain employees.
Mass Communication is a fast-growing field with various job opportunities in public relations, newspaper, radio, television, publishing houses, advertising agencies, government organizations, events and corporate communications, industries, and many other sectors. There are various job profiles available for Mass Communication professionals. These include being journalists, reporters, writers, photographers, photojournalists, broadcasters, film directors, radio and television presenters, editors, public relations officers, critics, columnists, freelancers, advertising sales agents, web editors, and media consultants, bloggers, etc.
General
For admission into any of the first degree programmes of the University, a candidate shall be required to possess the following minimum qualifications:
Admission Requirement: Four- Year Degree Programe In Mass Communication
Candidates applying to Mountain Top University are expected to sit for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and attain the National Aggregate score. This is a statutory requirement for entry into Nigerian universities. Candidates are required to apply for programmes of their choice by completing the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Registration Forms. They are to ensure that their UTME subject combination qualifies them for their chosen programmes. Candidates must take at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME), English Language, Literature in English, and any other two subjects from the Social Sciences, Sciences and the Arts.
Admission Requirement: Three- Year Degree Programmes In Mass Communication
Candidates must have obtained five credit passes at one sitting or six credit passes at two sittings at the ‘O’ Level/ Senior Secondary Certificate (WAEC, NECO, etc.) such credits must include English Language, Literature in English, and Mathematics.
In addition, candidates must possess A National Diploma (ND) in Mass Communication from a recognized institution of higher learning with a minimum of Lower Credit OR Two “A” level passes in relevant subjects, including English Literature.
Inter-University Transfer
Students transferring to Mass Communication Department from the Mass Communication Department of nay recognized and accredited university will be expected to be on a CGPA of not less than 3.0 on a 5- point scale. Such students can only transfer to year III (300 level).
Duration Of The Programme
Mountain Top University runs a 4- year programme for candidates with WASSCE or NECO and a 3- year programme for those with ND or other diploma certificates.
Four- Year Programme: Candidates must have obtained five credit passes at one sitting and six credit passes at two sittings at the “O” Level/ Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE, NECO, etc.) Such credits must include: English Language, Literature in English, and Mathematics.
Three- Year Programme: In addition to the above stated “O” level subjects, candidates who possess a National Diploma in Mass Communication, Diploma in Mass Communication, or other related disciplines as approved by the University Senate are considered for admission. Such Diploma MUST be with a minimum of Lower Credit.

The scope of research in the Department of Mass Communication covers all areas of communication - Print media, Mass media, public relations, advertising, development communication, and film studies. The research is carried out with a special focus on the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
